Former ZIPRA Commander and Marondera West member of parliament Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri has entered the race for the party's second vice presidency post left vacant following the death of Vice President Landa John Nkomo in 2013.

Retired Brigadier General Mutinhiri told the ZBC News after the Zanu-PF provincial coordinating committee meeting in Marondera that he will be entering the race to succeed Nkomo at the Zanu-PF congress to be held in December.

Retired Brigadier General Mutinhiri said he is confident of winning as he is one of the most senior members of the party and has the leadership qualities.

"I am very every confident. I think I have all the qualities and I am quite senior to occupy that position," he said.

Brigadier General Mutinhiri is the second official after Home Affairs Minister Kembo Mohadi to officially announce that they will be in the race for vice presidency.

National chairman Simon Khaya Moyo and former Zimbabwe ambassador to South Africa Pelekezela Mpoko have hinted they might contest.
