ASSAULTING her brother-in-law with a log on the head landed a Sakubva woman in trouble. Appearing before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura, Joyleen Mutetwa (20) of House Number 164, NHB, Sakubva pleaded guilty to the charges of assaulting her brother-in-law.
The court heard that on September 28, Munyaradzi Gono of House Number 417, Maonde, Sakubva, saw his wife and Joyleen, her sister, fighting, and tried to stop them.
This did not go down well with Mutetwa who accused Gono of interfering in her family matters.
Mutetwa took a log and struck Gono once on the head and he fell down sustaining a two-centimetre deep cut.
He went and reported the matter to the police leading to Mutetwa's arrest.
Gono was sent to hospital for medical examination. In her defense, Mutetwa said she was acting in self defense as Gono was the one who slapped her first.
"He slapped me Your Worship and I was acting in self defense to stop him from further assaulting me. He was the one who was attacking my sister and I was trying to stop them," said Mutetwa.
In her judgment, Mrs Chiundura advised Mutetwa to join fighting sports like karate, boxing and judo if she was so fond of fighting. She said Mutetwa could make money and become a celebrity and not be brought before the courts for public fighting.
She was ordered to pay $100 fine or face three months in jail if she failed to pay by October 20, 2014.
Since she was a first offender, two months were wholly suspended on condition that she did not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
