A PENHALONGA man was last week dragged before the courts facing allegations of stealing a lorry full of gold ore from his employer at Redwing mine in Penhalonga.

Crispen Mambondiani (26) appeared before Mutare magistrate Mrs Annie Ndiraya, pleading not guilty to the charges he was facing, namely theft and possession of gold as defined in c/s 3(1) of the Gold Trade Act chapter 21:3.

It was the State's case that on that on 29 October Mambondiani was found by police on patrol driving a lorry full of gold ore which he was taking to Gambirai village around 5 am.

Mambondiani failed to produce papers that were needed to transport gold ore and the employer was contacted after which he confirmed that his lorry that had gold ore had been stolen.

Mambondiani was then arrested. The trial was adjourned for trial to 13 November on $50 bail.

Magistrate Ndiraya advised him to either seek legal counsel or prepare his own defence.
