'Chombo rigged central committee nominations'

Mashonaland West Zanu-PF members have blasted Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo, accusing him of stuffing the central commitee with his district loyalists.
Josephine Mangove, a losing aspirant for a Central Committee post for Kadoma, told the Daily News on Wednesday that Chombo, who is also the head of the provincial congress coordinating committee, is abusing his power and imposing his allies to the central committee.
"Chombo is the one destroying this province," she said.
"He is the one single-handled picking up people for the central committee. He said (Ziyambi) Ziyambi should not be challenged as that was an instruction from Mugabe. He was lying to impose his friend Ziyambi."
While Chombo was not taking calls from the Daily News yesterday, Mangove alleged the minister flagrantly violated the party's regulations by selecting Mhondoro-Ngezi legislator Mike Gava as a central committee member.
"Gava was put on the list by Chombo," she said. "Gava has criminal cases pending in court, of kidnapping and we are shocked as to why he was selected. Chombo is double-faced and he is causing confusion in the province. Why did he block Temba Mliswa?"
Chombo on Sunday blocked ousted chairman Mliswa from seeking nomination into the central committee, on the grounds that he had a criminal record and disciplinary issues.
"For one to be in the Central Committee, he has to have served the party for a continuous 15 years, not charged by the party's disciplinary committee in the last five years and have no criminal record," Chombo said.
Mangove insisted that she was supposed to be appointed a central committee member on the basis of proportional representation but Chombo blocked the move.
"I was supposed to be one of the women who fill up the women quota in Kadoma but Chombo said I could not qualify and that was the instruction from the bosses," she said.
Agnes Chikore, another Zanu-PF member, said people should demonstrate against Chombo.
"There should be a demonstration against Chombo and (Webster) Shamu because they are abusing their powers to appoint people they like," Chikore said.
"President Robert Mugabe deserves to know the truth and that is, Chombo is causing mayhem in this province and he needs to be stopped."
