Mujuru brews shocker
27 Jan 2015 at 08:13hrs | Views
A candidate allegedly linked to former Vice-President Joice Mujuru romped to victory in the Zanu-PF primary polls in Mt Darwin West constituency, indicating her growing political muscle, while setting the stage for her continued influence in the province.
Barnwell Seremwe thumped his rivals, among them perceived front runner Godfrey Tsenengamu and two other contestants, to book a ticket to represent Zanu PF in the by-elections slated for March 27 to replace Mujuru who lost the seat by virtue of her rise to the post of vice-president two years ago before she was sacked late 2014.
The ex-VP lost her government and party posts in December after she was fired for perceived misconduct by her party colleagues.
Well-placed sources within Mujuru faction still reeling from a brutal purge ahead of the former guerrilla movement's elective congress last year said Seremwe was a Mujuru loyalist to the hilt.
