A DANGAMVURA family is demanding justice following the alleged gruesome murder of their son - a soldier stationed at 3.2 Infantry Battalion in Rusape - whose corpse was allegedly thrown into a railway line and subsequently shred into pieces after being crushed by a goods train.
The incident which happened at the 106km peg along the Harare-Mutare Railway is the talk of the town.
Although police are still investigating the death of Davison Timbukai Timburwa (27) who was attached to the KG6 School of Sports, his family members are suspecting foul play, saying their relative was murdered and his body thrown into the railway line to conceal the crime.
They said perpetrators of the heinous crime wanted the incident to appear as suicide.
His brother, Lucky Timburwa, was at a loss of words to explain what happened to the deceased.
"Our own investigations revealed that he was murdered. When some of our relatives visited the scene they found traces of blood several metres away from the railway line which showed that our brother was injured and bled before being thrown into the railway line. They also discovered that he could have been dragged all the way to the railway line by his assailants.
"We are pained by his sudden death and we want justice to be done. Those who committed the crime must be brought to book. We are glad his workmates from the ZNA said they will investigate the incident, while the police will also look into the case. Our hope is to get answers of what actually transpired," he said.
The family had a torrid moment locating and collecting his body parts which were strewn all over the place following the train crush.
They are yet to recover one of his limbs.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Enock Chishiri, said investigations were in progress.
"What I can tell you at the moment is that a member of the Zimbabwe National Army, Davison Timburwa, who was employed at 3.2 Infantry Battalion in Rusape, but currently attached to the KG6 School of Sports in Harare was killed in train crush incident on February 19 at around 10pm."
Some reports are suggesting that Timburwa had travelled from Harare to Rusape to see his girlfriend.
He is alleged to have tried to travel back to Harare for work while in a drunken stupor and decided to hang on a goods train as he did not have money for the return journey.
He tried to board the goods train, it is alleged, but slipped and fell into the railway line, leading to the crush incident.
However, other reports suggest to the contrary as the driver of the train is said to have revealed that he crushed into Timburwa's corpse which had been placed on the railway line.
He is alleged to have hooted several times in a bid to scare the deceased from the track, but his body was motionless, confirming reports that he was murdered before being thrown into the railway line.
