A son of Zimbabwe's first post-independence president, Canaan Sodindo Banana, says centralization of political power has devastated the southern African nation once regarded as one of the continent's bread baskets.

Forty-eight year old Nathan Sipho Banana, who describes the State House where he grew up as an executive prison, says this sad development can only be reversed if Zimbabweans adopt a common national socio-economic vision.

Banana further says this can be enhanced through accountability and transparency among the nation's political leaders.

He speaks to Studio 7's Gibbs Dube in this exclusive interview in which he also talks about his childhood and life after leaving the State House.

His father was convicted and jailed for sodomy. He pleaded not guilty of 11 charges of sodomy and related issues.
