A Chitungwiza murderer, Obert Maninji (37), stabbed himself on the chest, took an overdose of malaria tablets and drank rat poison in a suicide attempt-but still survived to face his crimes.
The man is facing charges of murdering a self styled prophet and attempting to kill his wife.
Maninji allegedly stabbed his wife on the abdomen several times, accusing her of having an affair with a self styled prophet, Tapiwa Chirara.
He then stabbed himself on the chest in a bid to kill himself but did not die.
Maninji allegedly proceeded to Chirara's place of residence in Harare's Warren Park suburb where he poured battery acid on the now deceased, before stabbing him on the chest with a knife.
After stabbing Chirara, the court heard that Maninji fled from the scene and was only apprehended at Hunyani Hills, where he was attempting to commit suicide.
He allegedly took an overdose of malaria tablets and rat poison, but even death refused to come and Maninji lived to face allegations against him.
The accused applied for bail and is denying the allegations.
He said he never intended to kill Chirara or his wife, but admitted that he acted out of anger after realising that his wife of 16 years was having an affair with his friend.
Maninji's lawyer, Raymond Nembo of Sawyer and Mukushi Legal Practitioners said the three attempts to commit suicide is evidence that his client lost control after provocation.
