FLAMBOYANT businessman Phillip Chiyangwa is allegedly in hot soup over a video clip in which he evades a police road block in Harare and goes on to ridicule the law enforcement agents.
The video went viral on social media networks this week. Chiyangwa yesterday said a Danish television station, which shot the documentary for its audience in that country, was not amused by the fact that the clip had gone viral in Zimbabwe. The video details Chiyangwa's lavish lifestyle.
"People from the Danish Television station have contacted me asking how the clip made its way onto the Internet. It was shot five years ago and when they finished shooting at the time, I asked them for a copy, but they said whoever wanted to watch it should buy it," he said.
Chiyangwa warned unscrupulous individuals who released the clip and anyone sharing it that they should be worried about the legal implications of circulating the clip.
"The documentary is the property of the Danish TV station so using that clip is not a smart thing for you to do because it has legal implications. I don't even remember the presenter's name or the length of the documentary as I signed off the rights to the television station when they concluded the shoot," said Chiyangwa.
The maverick business mogul, who is famous for bragging about his lavish lifestyle and top-of-the-range vehicles, was captured on the four-minute clip telling a white presenter that he never stops at police road blocks because it is a waste of time.
Questioned by The Chronicle if it was the norm for him not to stop at roadblocks, Mkoma Fidza, as Chiyangwa is known, evaded the question and instead said: "What if that clip was from Zambia or Tanzania? Sometimes the uniforms that our police officers wear are similar to police in those countries."
He said he has considered coming up with a documentary about his life as people have shown interest in most of his clips. The recent clip has garnered over 40,000 views on a single Facebook page.
"The documentary I'll come up with will be centred on transforming workers into entrepreneurs. The documentary will be about unlocking the inner entrepreneur in most Zimbabweans," said Chiyangwa.
