Zimbabwe's Commercial Farmers Union (CFU) has reportedly urged its members to be on high alert following reports that a gang in police and military uniform is attacking white farmers in the Midlands and Masvingo provinces.
A Southern Eye report quoted CFU director Hendrick Olivier as urging white commercial farmers to tighten their security after reports of attacks in Gweru and Mwenezi.
In a statement written to union members, Olivier said the latest incident involved a farmer and his wife who were attacked on their farm in the Mwenezi/Ngundu area at midnight over the weekend. The couple was assaulted and robbed.
"Please be on the lookout for three criminals who were seen driving away from the scene in a dark coloured Toyota Ipsum vehicle. One was dressed in a brown police uniform with a cap; another was dressed in the blue police uniform and the third was dressed in camouflage [army]," Olivier was quoted as saying.
National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba could not be reached for comment yesterday.
