THE Zimbabwean army is deeply divided over the decision to discipline the two army generals who supped with Zimbabwe's enemies and disregarded National Army commander General Constantine Chiwenga.
Brigadier Generals Herbert Chingono and Fidelis Satuku were exposed by the whistle blower website, Wikileaks as having described Gen Chiwenga "a political general" with "little practical military experience or expertise".
Zimbabwe National Army has since instituted investigations over the alleged statements.
According to Wikileaks, Chingono and Satuku met with US ambassador Charles Ray and discussed Gen Chiwenga's political ambitions, varying opinions within the army, poor working conditions, sanctions and politics among other burning issues within the force.
As military personnel, Chingono and Satuku were not supposed to meet the ambassador but the two have the backing of some senior army officers.
They also have the backing of Zanu Pf politburo who feels the issue should be left to pass.
Zimbabwe National Army spokesperson Colonel Overson Mugwizi confirmed that the two were under investigations and are likely to face a charge of 'treason or subversion' for meeting with the US ambassador.
If convicted, Chingono and Satuku will face imprisonment or even death sentence.
Chingono is the last ZNA commander to train at the United States National Defence University under the International Military Education.
Satuku received his military training in Britain.
