The People First fronted by ex-vice president Dr Joice Mujuru has submitted papers to Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to register the party.

ZEC was approached last Friday.

The group's spokesperson, Rugare Gumbo, said the party will be known as Zimbabwe People First.

"(On Friday) we officially wrote to Zec to notify them that we are now a political party. Our lawyers also submitted to Zec our party constitution," he said.

According to Zec top official, Utoile Silaigwana said People First submitted its documents on Friday.

"We received notification from Zimbabwe People First that they are now a political party.

"They submitted the letter on Friday together with their constitution."

The party is expected to be launched in the coming weeks.

Mujuru has been meeting members countrywide in developments that have reportedly caused panic within rival parties, Zanu PF and MDC-T.

Last week opposition parties Mujuru's People First (PF) movement to avoid the "big brother/sister mentality" in its engagements with other players or risk scuttling grand coalition initiatives already underway ahead of the 2018 elections.

The warnings came after  Gumbo week insinuated that Mujuru was the automatic leader of the proposed coalition movement.
