Prominent Plumtree businesswoman dies

PROMINENT Plumtree businesswoman, Nelly Moyo, has died. She was 61. Nelly, who owned a major hardware store in the border town, Drapers Hardware, was sister-in-law to the Economic Planning and Investment Promotion Minister, Simon Khaya Moyo.
She died last Tuesday after a short illness and was buried at Murdatroyd Cemetery in Plumtree on Saturday.
Addressing mourners at the Methodist Church in Plumtree, Khaya Moyo, who is also the Senator for Bulilima and Mangwe area, described Nelly's death as a huge loss to the family. "Nelly was a principled and kind woman. She got along with a lot of people and this is confirmed by the huge turnout of mourners that have come to bid her farewell.
"She was a hard working woman and her hardware business has helped a lot of people from Plumtree and surrounding areas. She was also a dedicated church woman and she has held various influential positions in the church and community," said Khaya Moyo.
Mourners described her as hard working and one of the major contributors to the town's growth. Nelly's husband, Zichy, expressed his grief over the untimely departure of his wife. He said Nelly's death had created a huge gap in his life which would be difficult to fill.
Nelly was born in Plumtree on January 6, 1955. She was an accomplished businesswoman who assisted local and surrounding farmers with hardware material and veterinary medicines. She was an active member of the Methodist Church and at her time of death, the church's Plumtree Circuit leader.
