A Bulawayo man suspected to be a member of the 'classy' professional shoplifters was deserted by lady luck last week when he was allegedly caught red handed at a city supermarket in possession of ten 250mls of dettol stuffed under his shirts (he was wearing more than one), the city's only state controlled tabloid newspaper reported.

The man identified as Abel Munyira and better known as 'Munya' in the city shocked shoppers at TM Supermarket along Fife Street when he was found in possession of full dettol containers which he had concealed around his body.

A source from the supermarket said Munya drives a sports car and he has always frequented their shop.

The source said Munya was always clad in fancy outfits hence little did they suspect him to be a thief.

On the fateful day it is alleged that he got into the shop as usual, pushing the shopping trolley; "Little did he know that the surveillance security guards in civil wear were watching him from a distance. Munya then packed a lot of groceries in his basket and at the same time he was stuffing some groceries under his shirts.

"Having collected enough groceries, he headed for the till where he queued for a few minutes before pretending as if he had changed his mind. He left the fully packed trolley and was caught at the shops exit," said the source.

The source said Munya was in the company of his partners in crime who immediately drove off upon realising that their thieving trump card was in trouble.

He said guards orchestrated a massive search on Munya and discovered that he was putting on three shirts. Damm! Under this scorching weather?

"He was putting on three shirts, the first one was a normal shirt and then the stretchy torn one to allow him to push the groceries on all sides without sticking to the body and then a big shirt.

"We realised that he had tied just below the buttocks so his groceries would not fall. When he was interrogated, he revealed that they worked as a team and they usually travel around the country on their shoplifting business which is his source of income," said the source.

So daring was Munya!
The guards are reported to have tried to no avail to get the names of Munya's accomplices as he vowed that they were many but he was prepared to die alone.

"He told us that he was a married man, therefore revealing the names of his accomplices would be disastrous as they are supposed to look after his family if he gets arrested," revealed ' the source.

The source said that although Munya was taken by the police, they saw him a "free man the following day". They do not know how he got to be a free man after being caught red handed.
