Heroes' Day preps on course

PREPARATIONS for the Bulawayo provincial 2016 Heroes' Day commemorations are at an advanced stage, with the provincial mobilisation committee urging people in the city to honour the country's heroes.
Heroes' Day would be marked on August 9 throughout the country, with the main function being held at the National Heroes' Acre in Harare.
The province held a meeting early this week, at which committees and sub -committee members gave feedback to the Provincial Administrator Mrs Khonzani Ncube on progress made so far.
Mrs Ncube said preparations were going on well and encouraged the people of Bulawayo to attend the commemorations in their numbers.
"Plans and logistics for the 2016 Heroes Day commemorations are continuing and they're at an advanced stage. The people of Bulawayo will gather at the provincial shrine in Nkulumane on August 8 and a number of activities have been lined up for the event.
In Matabeleland South, the provincial development committee yesterday met to deliberate on the commemorations.
Acting PA Peter Moyo, who chaired the meeting said $3 000 has been raised so far for the commemorations to be held at Matabeleland South Provincial Heroes Acre in Gwanda. He said they were targeting to raise $4 000 for both the Heroes and Defence Forces' commemorations.
Mr Moyo said they have sourced 1 000 litres of opaque beer, a giraffe for meat and large quantities of maize –meal and rice.
"We are raring to go; we are waiting for the day to come," he said.
The acting PA urged people who made pledges to come forward to ensure that the commemorations are a success.
In Matabeleland North Province, it's all systems go as the province gears up for the commemorations.
Various committees-transport, fundraising, catering, finance and others held a meeting chaired by Umguza District Administrator Mrs Ennetty Sithole in Lupane on Tuesday to give an update on the preparations.
Ingwebu Breweries donated 1 000 litres of opaque beer, Makomo Resources will provide catering services for the VIPs while local authorities and parastatals have pledged different amounts of money, with close to $3 000 having been raised so far.
The Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs Cain Mathema said preparations are going on well.
"Preparations are going on well for the day at Somhlolo Stadium in Lupane," he said. "People from Matabeleland North should know they are the owners of the economy in the province because that's the reason why these people whose lives we are celebrating went to war. "
He challenged every Zimbabwean to work together towards implementing the goals of the fallen heroes.
In the Midlands province, $10 000 has been set as the target to be channelled towards this year's Heroes and Defence Forces' Day commemorations.
A member of the provincial organising team, Mr Edwin Moyo, said preparations for the two day national events are now at an advanced stage.
