Zimbabweans have been implored to guard jealously the peace prevailing in the country and desist from acts that ignite violence.
The call was made by the Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General Dr Augustine Chihuri at an event to welcome police contingents who were on tour of duty in Darfur and Liberia and the sending off of a senior police officer for peace a keeping mission in South Sudan.
Following presentation of reports about instability in some of the continent's war torn countries during a de-briefing by the peacekeepers who returned from their tour of duty, Commissioner General Chihuri said Zimbabweans should take lessons from the countries ravaged by civil wars.
He said the ZRP will intervene whenever there are elements within the society that seek to destabilise the country.
Commissioner General Chihuri commended the 14 officers who returned from peacekeeping missions in Darfur and Liberia saying they raised the country's flag high and the country will continue to second its forces for such missions.
The Zimbabwean heads of mission that were on peacekeeping duty to Liberia and Darfur, Superintendent Simba Chako and Chief Superintendent Abiyuti Kachirika said their experience in the war torn regions have taught them about the need to promote peaceful co-existence among other security related lessons.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner General and other senior police officers bid farewell to Chief Inspector Christopher Tapfumanei who is leaving for a senior appointment in South Sudan following a global selection process by the United Nations to fill the post of advisor to the joint integration police in the UN peacekeeping mission.
