A DARING Masvingo man allegedly shot his girlfriend's husband in the chest after he had caught him being intimate with the woman in his car.

Wayne Matema of Mucheke allegedly shot Mr Joseph Ushe, a soldier at 4 Infantry Brigade in Masvingo, in the chest leaving him seriously injured.

Ushe had allegedly found Matema being intimate with his wife, Tariro Mpofu, in a car near her workplace on Wednesday around 2AM.

It is alleged that Matema, who is said to be running a tombstone and coffin-making business in Mucheke suburb in Masvingo, allegedly drove to Utsinda Primary School where his married girlfriend is attached as a student teacher.

The two then decided to have quality time in Matema's car, near the school gate but outside the premises.

Allegations are that Mr Ushe, who had been tipped about his wife's philandering with Matema, laid a trap.

Before getting into the school yard just near the gate, he saw Matema's car that had been described to him by a whistleblower. A curious Mr Ushe moved closer only to find the two having sex in the car.

An enraged Mr Ushe allegedly smashed the vehicle's windows thereby disturbing the two lovebirds, leading to a fierce fight.

It was during the fight that the undressed Matema reached for his clothes before pulling a pistol and allegedly shooting Mr Ushe in the chest.

After realising that he had harmed him, Matema allegedly rushed Mr Ushe in his car to Chivi District Hospital where he was transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital in Harare due to his deteriorating condition.

After seeing that his victim was badly injured, Matema rushed Mr Ushe to Chivi District Hospital where he was transferred to Harare.  Mpofu disappeared into the darkness.

Matema surrendered himself to the police leading to his arrest on attempted murder charges.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula confirmed the incident which occurred at Utsinda Primary School in Chivi but said she could not give details as the matter was now before the courts.
