Morgan Tsvangirai's Chief of Staff, Abisha Nyanguwo, was yesterday remanded in custody in Gweru after the magistrate ruled that he will make a ruling on his bail application today.
Nyanguwo is facing charges of malicious damage to property. The State is accusing him of bombing Zanu-PF offices in Gweru last December.
The State alleges Nyanguwo arrived at the Zanu-PF offices around 11:30pm and placed two explosives near the office entrance before igniting them.
He then allegedly drove off at high speed in his Isuzu KB truck, registration number ABA 6885, with the explosives going off soon after his departure.
He was arrested earlier this week and has been detained at Gweru Central Police Station.
The magistrate postponed the initial remand hearing as the State files did not include any witnesses. It was only in the afternoon when one Archford Tambare was included as the State witness.
The State is claiming that Tambare, a police officer from Zhombe district witnessed Nyanguwo ferrying explosives from Mvuma which he used to blow up the Zanu-PF Gweru offices.
On 22 March 2012 heavily armed police officers raided Nyanguwo's residence in Harare, claiming to search for weapons of war and mass destruction before they impounded his Isuzu double cab truck alleging that it was used in the bombing.
Early this year, police in Gweru also arrested three MDC-T members, Shepherd Marange, Douglas Tsuro and Silas Mutendeudzwa on charges of bombing the same Zanu-PF offices but they were later released.
Michael Mhene prosecuted.
