Man with mental health problems hit by bus

A tragic incident unfolded in Dete as an Extra city bus struck and fatally injured a pedestrian at the Cross Dete Business Centre in the early hours of Monday morning, casting a somber mood over the local residents.
The Extra city bus regularly travels along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls route, with the incident occurring approximately 281 km from Bulawayo, nearing the Victoria Falls resort town.
The deceased, identified as Obriey Ndlovu (38) from Ndangababi village under Chief Nekatambe, was a known psychiatric patient who had recently taken up residence at the Cross Dete Business Centre.
A witness, requesting anonymity, recounted the events, stating, "The pedestrian suddenly darted onto the road, displaying erratic and violent behavior, making it impossible for anyone to restrain him due to his actions."
The witness further elaborated that Ndlovu had been grappling with psychiatric issues for an extended period.
Following the tragic collision, the bus has been directed to the Hwange vehicle inspection depot for evaluation, while the deceased has been transferred to the Hwange Colliery Mortuary.
As of the report, there has been no official statement from the Extra city bus company.
Inspector Banda, the spokesperson for the Matabeleland North Police, confirmed the incident but indicated that no passengers aboard the bus were harmed.
