Police arrest two security guards over Inyathi mine shooting

NKAYI - Police in Nkayi have arrested two security guards in connection with a murder and attempted murder case that occurred on 30 November at Durable Gold (DGL5) Mine, Inyathi, Matabeleland North.
The suspects, Mbekhezele Ngwabi (52) and Elisha Matsvai (45), were taken into custody following a violent confrontation with illegal miners.
According to police, Ngwabi allegedly shot Thabo Ngwenya (24) with a 12‑bore rifle in the chest and neck, while Matsvai shot Nkosikhona Moyo (19) in the eye and left arm.
Ngwenya died while being transported to hospital, while Moyo survived with gunshot injuries.
Police said the victims had confronted the guards demanding the release of their colleague, who had been apprehended for conducting illegal mining activities at the mine.
Investigations are ongoing.
