A man from Mangwe District under Chief Hobodo who allegedly fatally assaulted his mother in 2008 has been indicted to the High Court in Bulawayo for trial tomorrow.
Gabriel Ndlovu, who was 32, when he allegedly committed the offence nearly five years ago, has been remanded at Mlondolozi Special Institution at Khami Prison where he was being examined by a mental doctor for the past three years.
Dr Elena Poskotchinova had recommended that Ndlovu could have been suffering from mental disorder when he committed the offence and was unfit to stand trial.
Ndlovu was indicted when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Takundwa Mtetwa on Wednesday following consent from the Attorney General's Office that he be indicted in terms of Subsection 1 of Section 105 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, Chapter 59.
Ndlovu is being accused of killing his mother, Esnath Phuthi, who was 56 at the time of her death.
It is alleged that on 20 May 2008 at about 11pm, Ndlovu and his mother had a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue.
The court heard that Ndlovu picked up a log and assaulted her with it all over the body. His mother tried to flee but he gave chase until she collapsed and died on the spot.
Ndlovu was arrested by a member of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee who was alerted by neighbours after hearing the old woman screaming for help.
Phuthi's body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for a postmortem.
Appearing before the same court, two men were remanded in custody to today for allegedly killing an unidentified man and robbing him of a cellphone and clothes he was wearing.
Shepherd Haiza (28), of 74 11th Street and Liberty Kokera (19), of 75 11th Street both in Makokoba allegedly committed the offence in the company of other accomplices who are still at large.
