A 38-year-old mentally ill man from Kezi committed suicide by hanging himself.
The incident occurred on Monday at about 4.30pm.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya confirmed the incident.
He identified the man as Cossy Maphosa of Kapeli Village in Sun-Yet-Sen.
"I can confirm that we received a report of a psychiatric patient from Sun-Yet-Sen in Kezi who committed suicide by hanging himself," said Asst Insp Ngwenya.
He said Maphosa was living with his wife, Buhle Moyo (35) at their homestead but the incident happened when he was alone at home.
"On 23 September at around 4.30pm, Moyo left home to fetch water at Simukwe River about a kilometre away from their homestead and left her husband sleeping in the bedroom," said Asst Insp Ngwenya.
"When Moyo returned home at about 5.30pm, she found the bedroom locked. She then peeped through the window and saw her husband hanging from the roof.
"She alerted a neighbour, Zanakile Maphosa (28)who is also her sister-in-law, who came and broke into the house."
A report was made to the police who attended the scene.
The post-mortem was waived by a local magistrate, Mr Jimmy Ntonga.
