A ZIMBABWEAN plumber based in South Africa has been arrested for stealing R141 000 from a client while his brother has been jailed for illegal possession of ammunition.
Levison Moyo (26) was employed by Fumani Ndebele (40) of Johannesburg in South Africa to mend his pipes.
While at his house, Moyo stole the money and fled back into the country. The police pursued him to his elder brother's home, in Mbimba area Madlambuzi, Bulilima District where they stumbled upon two live rounds of ammunition while searching for the money.
The brothers were convicted on their own plea of guilty by Plumtree magistrate Mr Gideon Ruvetsa.
They were each sentenced to 210 hours of community service at Mbimba Primary School.
The court heard that on 9 October Moyo who was employed as a plumber stole 141 000 rand in cash from the complainant's house in his absence.
On 14 October police received information that he had fled to Pedzani Moyo's homestead in Bulilima. They proceeded to search his brother's homestead for the money and recovered 27 800 rand hidden under a mattress and upon being questioned Levison Moyo revealed that he had shared some of the money with his friends in South Africa.
He told the court that he shared the money with three other friends before coming to the country.
While they were searching for the money which was stolen by his younger brother the police stumbled upon two live rounds of ammunition namely, 270 WIN which belonged to Pedzani Moyo hidden under the mattress.
He admitted ownership of the ammunition and that he did not have a licence for them. Pedzani said he had acquired the ammunition while working in South Africa.
