Jilted man stones girl

A 17-YEAR-OLD girl escaped death by a whisker after a man whose love advances she had spurned struck her with a rock on the forehead and stole her cellphone as punishment.
This emerged when Manase Moyo (28) appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Story Rushambwa facing assault and theft charges for stoning Tatenda Sibanda of Mhlanga village in Mazvihwa, Mberengwa, and stealing her cellphone after she had turned down his advances.
Moyo pleaded guilty to assault, theft and assault charges.
He was remanded in custody to tomorrow when the State will assess Sibanda's medical report to determine whether he could be charged with attempted murder.
The court heard that on August 18 at around 3pm, Moyo, who is from the same village, went to the Sibanda homestead saying he was paying the family a courtesy visit.
Sibanda informed Moyo that she was alone at home and asked him to leave, but he told her that he had an important message to deliver to her.
Moyo then allegedly proposed love to the teenager, but she rejected his advances and threatened to inform her aunt about Moyo's antics.
Moyo then asked the girl to escort him out of the Sibanda homestead.
The State alleged that along the way, Moyo tried to force himself on the girl, but she threatened to scream for help.
He allegedly picked up a rock and struck her on the forehead resulting in her collapsing and sustaining a deep wound.
Moyo then stole the girl's cellphone and fled from the scene. Sibanda was rushed to hospital by a villager who found her in a pool of blood along the footpath.
