Schoolgirl 'killer' arrested

A LUPANE man has been arrested in connection with last week's rape and brutal murder of a 15-year-old Fatima High School pupil.
The girl, who was in Form One, was found dead and partially dressed, showing signs that she had bled from the nose, mouth and private parts.
In a statement yesterday, police national spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said Casper Mhlanga, 29, of Lupane, had been arrested in connection with the schoolgirl's murder.
"The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to confirm the arrest of a murder suspect Casper Mhlanga, 29, of Fatima village under Chief Mabhikwa in Lupane who is alleged to have murdered a female pupil Eudisha Ncube aged 15 at Fatima High School on 21 January," said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.
It is alleged that Mhlanga raped Ncube before strangling her.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon facing murder charges.
"The late was asleep in one of the rooms in a farm house used as a hostel outside the school premises when Mhlanga unlawfully entered the room, raped the late before strangling her," she said.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba said the suspect stole several items belonging to the pupil and disappeared.
"Intensive investigations by the police led to the arrest of the suspect and the subsequent recovery of one grey satchel, a 300ml Beverly Hills perfume, 500 grammes washing powder pack, 375ml tomato sauce and 500 grammes mayonnaise bottle belonging to the girl," said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.
She urged school authorities to provide maximum security at school hostels and other properties where school children would be residing.
The body of Ncube was found in her room around 11pm soon after the commission of the offence and the incident sent shock waves to pupils at the school who now fear for their lives.
Ncube shared a room with four other schoolgirls.
