A GWANDA traditional healer assaulted his stepmother with a log before biting her following a misunderstanding over cow bells.
Collen Moyo, 36, of Majiya village in Guyu under Chief Marupi was on Wednesday convicted on his own plea of guilty to physical abuse by magistrate Arafat Kozanai.
He was sentenced to a wholly suspended 90 days in jail.
The sentence was suspended for three years on condition that Collen does not commit a similar offence within that period.
Collen told the court that he assaulted his stepmother, Sibongubuhle Moyo, 40, with a log because she had insulted him.
"I sent my child to the complainant's homestead to collect some cow bells but the complainant sent back my child with a message of insult. The insult concerned my mother's private parts. I then proceeded to the complainant's homestead with the aim of collecting the cow bells myself and also get an explanation from her about the insults.
"I was so shocked when she again had the guts to repeat the insult in my presence. She then picked a shovel and hit me on the leg and I got injured. She also bit me on the chest.
"As a result, I also picked a log and hit her before biting her too," said Moyo.
Prosecuting, Mncedisi Dube said Collen had a misunderstanding with his step mother on June 1 this year at around midday.
"The accused person approached the complainant demanding some cattle bells which he claimed that he had left at the complainant's homestead three years ago.'
The complainant told Collen that there were no bells at her homestead and this angered him. Collen then struck the complainant with a log twice on her back and arms before biting her on the left shoulder," said Dube.
Sibongumusa sustained some injuries and reported the matter to the police leading to Collen's arrest.
