A 20-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo drowned at Umguza Rest Camp on Sunday.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said Rasel Musavengana from Magwegwe suburb, who was allegedly drunk, drowned while swimming in a pool with his uncle.
"I can confirm that we received a sudden death by drowning report involving a 20-year-old man who drowned while on an outing with his uncle.
It's suspected that the two were drinking before deciding to go on a swimming expedition," she said. Insp Simango said members of the public tried in vain to rescue Musavengana.
She urged members of the public to avoid mixing drinking and activities that need mental and physical co-ordination.
"Swimming and drinking beer can never go hand in hand. We're calling on members of the public to desist from swimming when their faculties are impaired by alcohol," said Insp Simango.
