Ziso rubbishes the Herald story about vendors
25 Jun 2015 at 10:54hrs | Views
Zimbabwe Informal Sectors Organization (ZISO) disputes the Herald's article of the 25th of June 2015 that NAVUS is the only vendors organization that is opposed to the forcible eviction of vendors from the streets.
ZISO is vehemently opposed to the evictions and we have written a comprehensive letter to Minister Chombo imploring him to reconsider his decision and embark on a more inclusive and consultative process that will result in a more amicable and sustainable solution. The letter to Minister Chombo was underwritten by thirty one other civil society groups that are opposed to the confrontational route.
There are numerous other organizations that are opposed to the confrontational approach taken by the government not least the vendors themselves who have no other alternative sources of livelihood.
As the deadline approaches, ZISO and other vendors associations will scale up efforts to convince the Minister to abandon the eviction route and embark on a dialogue process to find lasting solutions to the question of the governance and regulation of the informal sector in Zimbabwe.
