Linda Masarira gets it!

The Editor,

I personally shudder every time I read or hear Morgan Tsvangirai saying his party, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) is making strides in Zimbabwe. It is not a bad idea for a dictator to choose the ballot box way but that requires the opposition to be ready. Morgan Tsvangirai is election happy and does not understand what it takes for the opposition to be adequately prepared and I thank Linda Masarira for bringing that point to the fore.

Just a quick point of correction to Linda, dictators can be defeated, case in point is Gambia, only thing is opposition must get its act together. I however agree 100 percent with your assessment of Morgan Tsvangirai; he has done his part and has no clue where to go from here. Let me put it this way, he is like a high-flying grade seven graduate who finds himself in University.

Morgan is election happy without a basic understanding that Mugabe will never establish a level playing field—economically or politically. To begin with, any façade of economic liberalization that Mugabe has tried to implement were meant to only enrich the ruling vampires while the masses walloped in abject poverty.

Just as in Tunisian before the uprisings there, the Zimbabwe economy is now controlled by Mugabe's daughter and the many relatives of his second wife, Grace Mugabe. Mugabe's "tentacles penetrates deeper into Zimbabwe's financial system; they have access to sweetheart loans from farcical banks. This is an all too familiar story around Africa.

From 1980, Mugabe has chosen the ballot box, and the opposition fronted by Morgan has been woefully prepared. But like I said before, Morgan is like a high-flying grade seven graduate who finds himself in University; he does not get it when we tell him to demand a level playing field, that the voters' register must be clean, that the electoral commission is independent, and that the electoral process is transparent.

It is Morgan for your own information who has already announced to the world that, "Mugabe, Zanu-PF 'are finished"How can MDC finish off Mugabe without A free media, an independent judiciary, electoral commission, and central bank, neutral security forces, and a professional civil service. I need Morgan to answer me this directly; I am free to provide my phone number to him or I can meet him at Mandamabwe center in Chivi any day he chooses. I am an unemployed University graduate, and former Chigubu in the war of liberation struggle and have all the time.

MDC has again woefully failed to do their homework and are rushing to participate in an election without adequate preparations. It will be the same opposition that will cry foul when it is trounced by ZANU (PF). Such blunders, repeated, simply give Mugabe new lease on life. This time however, I want to warn ZANU (PF) that the growing social inequality, lack of jobs, and deteriorating economic conditions will fuel resentment and public anger. They might still the election but it will not be too long before people stand up against blatant impunity by a shameless dictator.

Sincerely yours,

Sam Wezhira
