The Zimbabwe senior national cricket team coach Stephen Mangongo has been axed by the sport's mother body just days after returning from a disastrous tour of Bangladesh.
Mangongo will now take charge of the Under 19 side.
He had taken over from Andy Waller a few months ago.
Mangongo left for the sub-continent still basking in the glory of leading Zimbabwe to a first win over Australia in 31 years but his team was ruthlessly exposed in Bangladesh and he had to pay the price.
"The reappointment of Mangongo is a strategic move that we hope will bring results for the team. In addition, we will also widen our selection panel. We will include the coach, assistant coach and captain," said Wilson Manase, Zimbabwe Cricket chairperson.
Two well-known candidates have been earmarked to take over as national team and specialist batting coaches with the announcement to be made after Christmas.
Former Zimbabwe cricket team batsman Murray Goodwin is among candidates being linked to take over from Mangongo as the Zimbabwe cricket team head coach.
In Bangladesh, the Chevrons lost 5 one day international encounters and three test matches to the Tigers.
