OK grand challenge back set for 2 June

A competitive field of 14 runners has been accepted to contest the 24th edition of the OK Grand Challenge at Borrowdale Race Course on the 2nd of June.
The 14 horse-field that will compete for a stake in the $48 000 OK Grand Challenge comprises: Earl of Surrey, Captain's Tiger, Code Rock, House of Wax, Eight Street, Alula Borealis, Gracie Jones, Officer Class, Burmese Cat, Pressure, Madigan, Imperial Dice, Al Kahtan and Mr Indigo.
The Grand Challenge, one of the richest and most popular races on the domestic horse racing calendar will feature two horses that have won the Triple Crown, that is Earl of Surrey, which achieved the feat in 2006 and Madigan which followed suit on Sunday.
Mashonaland Turf Club Chairman Mike Van Blerk paid tribute to OK Zimbabwe Limited for bankrolling the race, which endorses the retail giant's commitment towards ensuring horse-racing remains a competitive sport.
"Credit goes to Ok Zimbabwe for its support over the years. Racing can only get better with such support," said Van Blerk.
The retail concern's Chief Operating Officer Albert Katsande hailed the 14 horse-field that will contest the race which he said will be a memorable experience for the horse racing industry.
Katsande said: "Horseracing lovers should brace themselves for an exciting race. It will be the first of its kind in terms of money poured in."
