Dynamos (0) 1 - (1) 2 Hwange
HWANGE striker Francisco Zvikumbawire was the toast of the day for his side after scoring a memorable brace at Barbourfields which was enough to send the coalminers to the final of the Bob 88 Super Cup soccer final yesterday.
The coalminers will now meet FC Platinum on February 28 in the final.
Zvikumbawire, who is in his second season at Hwange, hit the back of the net in the 12th and 51st minute with Dynamos goalkeeper Washington Arubi pulling one back for his side in the 84th minute.
Dynamos finished the match with 10 men after Murape Murape, a 53rd-minute, introduction, was sent for an early shower in the 63rd minute for abusive language towards referee Philani Ncube.
Another Dynamos player Guthrie Zhokinyi also received a red card at full-time for insulting the referee in a match the Harare team's players showed lack of fitness and discipline.
Several of the Dynamos players were lucky not to be cautioned as they, on numerous occasions, needlessly mobbed the match official.
The team's management has a mountain to climb as the DeMbare fans were also found wanting, throwing missiles onto the pitch on more than three instances.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police details also added to the day's drama, allowing Dynamos fans to invade the Soweto stand at half-time, resulting in some skirmishes.
The Dynamos' supporters were sent packing to the southern and eastern stands of the stadium by the small crowd at Soweto.
Luckily there was no tramped on the fence separating the pitch and Soweto stand.
There was not much separating the two teams in the opening minutes of the match as both sides tried to build from the back with Zhokinyi marshalling the DeMbare defence well and Zambian Aaron Katebe keeping a tight lid in front of impressive young Hwange goalkeeper Petros Mhari.
Hwange eventually got the initiative in the 12th minute with Zvikumbawire and Rodwell Chinyengetere exchanging some neat passes from 30 metres out. This eventually led to a one-on-one situation with Zvikumbawire beating Arubi with ease for his first goal in Hwange colours.
Dynamos came close to scoring in the 26th minute when defender David Kutyauripo got the better of Nkosana Siwela in a battle deep inside the DeMbare.
Kutyauripo then made a spirited run on the right before sending a good cross into the box and up went Roderick Mutuma to nod it down towards goal and good some goalkeeping from Mhari saw him going airborne to punch the ball out for a corner.
In one of Dynamos' best attacks of the day, Denver Mukamba sold the Hwange defence a beautiful dummy in the 30th minute to set up Mutuma on the blind side.
The 2011 Golden Boot winner's volley from inside the box was saved by Mhari on second attempt.
Two minutes later it was the time for Tineyi Chitora to try his luck but he blazed over the bar with Hwange players outnumbered in their own half after an injury-induced break.
Most Hwange players were still getting some water on the touchline when Ncube blew for resumption of play with Dynamos quickly taking a throw-in. Nkosana Siwela, quiet all along, found himself in the shooting range and his full-bloodied effort was saved by the reigning Soccer Star of the Year Arubi.
Dynamos came searching for a goal in the 47th minute with Mhari coming to the rescue of Hwange, denying Thomas Magorimbo.
Zvikumbawire then later made it 2-0 for the coalminers with a brilliant goal.
He dispossessed Bello of the ball just outside the centre circle and ran towards goal with Zhokinyi closing in before slotting it ball past a bemused Arubi.
"We are so happy for Francisco, these were his first goals for Hwange, we hope this has opened the floodgates for him," said Hwange assistant coach Nation Dube after the match.
On 82 minutes recent Dynamos signing Takesure Chinyama was released in a face-to-face situation with Hwange goalkeeper Mhari who pulled off another great save.
Two minutes later there was no denying Arubi a goal.
Dynamos won a free-kick about 45 metres out and the goalkeeper sent a stinger worth winning any great game past Mhari.
