A Harare court yesterday dismissed Munyaradzi Milimo (DJ Munya)'s application for refusal of further remand in his murder trial and ordered the State to speed up investigations to enable trial to commence.

Harare magistrate Milton Serima gave the State a last chance to put its house in order before proceeding with DJ Munya's trial.

The talented radio DJ was granted bail by the High Court in June last year.

He has lodged numerous applications for refusal of further remand arguing that the State has taken an inordinately long time before trial.

DJ Munya's lawyer Lucky Mawuwa asked the court to grant the application on the basis that South African pathologists had turned down the State's request to provide toxicology and histology tests which have stalled the trial.

Serima said there have been developments on the case and the State would now engage local forensic experts.

The matter was remanded to February 19.

DJ Munya is jointly charged with Taurai Jani and Mohammed Matare.

Allegations against the trio arose after Tinashe Magorimbo died due to suspected poisoning.

This was after he allegedly failed to pay DJ Munya $5 000 "compensation" for having an illicit affair with his wife.

The court heard that Magorimbo allegedly gave DJ Munya a part payment of $1 000 through Jani and Matare in February this year.

It is alleged Magorimbo later became evasive, prompting the top spinner to enlist the services of Jani and Matare to force him to pay.

Magorimbo went missing in May, before he was eventually found at his flat by his wife on May 18, naked, with both hands tied with a rope.

He later died at West End Clinic, where he had been hospitalised.
