DJ Fresh set to rock Bulawayo fans

BULAWAYO - Popular South African house music disc jockey, Thato Sikwane aka DJ Fresh, is set to perform at Sports 747 on June 23.

DJ Fresh became known first for his breakfast slot on radio station YFM (which he hosted for eight years) and later as the host of the Drive Time (16h00 - 19h00) on 5FM.

A spokesperson for Sports 747 said DJ Fresh would jet into the country on June 23 in the afternoon and perform in the evening.

Fresh, a presenter on 5FM in South Africa, will perform in the city for the first time this year having thrilled house music fans in August last year at Bar Labhala.

The spokesperson said Fresh has already been cleared for the performance at Sports 747.

Local disc jockeys, Mendoza, Chris, Emity Smooth and Cool J will entertain showgoers before Fresh takes over.

DJ Fresh is the winner, "Best Daytime Presenter, MTN Radio Awards 2011 for his daily afternoon Drive Show on 5fm. Popular as an MC and event DJ.

Thato DJ 'Fresh' Sikwane is undeniably one of the most sought-after DJs on the circuit.

For many years, DJ Fresh hosted the "most-important" slot on Gauteng's number one radio station - yFM, and now he's on the nation's no.! hot channel, 5fm where he is still serving up the most relevant topics and the hottest tunes. And did you know that he studied two years of law before jumping ship to journalism?

In the clubs and on the BIG stages, DJ Fresh has shared the DJ booth with a number of internationals, including "Little Louie" Vega, Frankie Knuckles, Armand Van Helden and Dominic Spreadlove and in 2002, Fresh was among a team of South African DJs who performed at the Masters At Work party at the Miami Winter Music Conference.
 
Not only is Fresh an awesome and respected DJ, he's also a father and an entrepreneur. Apart from launching his own company, he's established the DJ Fresh Annual Scholarship programme, which awards tertiary scholarships to deserving students who cannot afford it. Another of his babies is the "Rollback Xenophobia" campaign, and he has raised money for organizations like POWA and the Cancer Association with unique initiatives like "kissathons".

Currently a guest at any club venue across the country worth its salt, as well as a regular at night-clubbing institutions like Sandton's Calabash, Fresh regularly lives up to his name by dishing up the newest and spiciest beats.

South Africa has been experiencing xenophobia and DJ Fresh has only recently embarked, along with the Human Rights Commission on a "Rollback Xenophobia" poster campaign to educate youth of South Africa about the dangers of xenophobia, but the projects DJ Fresh embarks on are not just about funding students, he cares for people suffering from cancer and he condemns any form of abuse.
