THE birth of kwaito at turn of the new millennium in Zimbabwe was finely delivered by pioneers such as Achuzi and Go Boys to name but a few. Their presence in the music industry was greatly felt but a. big void was left in the hearts of many fans after their departure for "greener pastures".

It's been more than five years since they released a single track locally, turning their music into relics of undeveloped talent.

Sunday Leisure reporter Millicent Mthenjwa (MM) managed to track down member and founder of the sensational group, Achuzi, Unity Moyo (UM) at his base in South Africa, where he is said to be riding on a shooting star.

MM: You have not been on the spotlight lately and your fans have not heard your music in quite a long time, what have you been up to?

UM: I have been working and have been in the studio cooking up something for my fans. I am working on my second album although I can't tell you the name yet. The album will feature musicians such as Sani Makhalima and Umsindo all stars.

MM: I understand you are quite the man in SA, you have been playing at several gigs and are always partying. Please enlighten us.

UM: Yeah, I have been, working with a number of South African artistes namely Mapaputsi, Brown Dash, and DJ Aero from Herbal 3 records and I also turntables and produce other artistes' music.

MM: Apart from cramming yourself up in the studio what have you been doing?

UM: I have managed to get airplay as a presenter on an online radio station, vision radio and the show is called Under Ground Vibes and with this I hope to break new grounds.

MM: What type of music do you play on the station and how did you land the position?

UM: I play underground music from upcoming musicians and quite a bit from established musicians that have gone quiet.

I honestly am not particular about the genre or language as long as it is good.

MM: So where is your station exactly?

UM: Since it's an online thing I work from my laptop. Our headquarters are in the United Kingdom. I work with legends such as (former Zimbabwe radio personalities, Ezral Tshisa Sibanda, Erick Night, Brenda Moyo).

MM: Can we expect you back in the country anytime soon with new dynamic performances?

UM:I am not sure when I will be wooing crowds back home because 1 have no bookings at the moment but I will be in Botswana on 26 of the coming month performing alongside Pitch Black Afro.

MM: With so many fans looking unto you to raise the Zimbabwean flag high in the globe, what can you say to encourage them to do them to do the same.

UM: Well to amajida back home, they must be patient with the music industry as it is not- easy and the fact that people back home no longer tune to local radio stations and television stations I think its best to do road shows and use the social networking sites so as to try and gain familiarity and also as an advertising initiative.

MM: Thank you for your time, any closing remarks to quench your fans' thirsts who have longed to hear from you for so long?

UM: I would say I have not forgotten about the fans that kept my spirits soaring to achieve my dream. As a musician I would be more than honoured to mentor new talent, and like I mentioned, you can follow me on my online slot every Saturday from 3pm right to 6pm.
