It's all systems go for the much awaited Gwanda gospel music extravaganza scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
A state of the art stage packed with tonnes of lighting and a sound system never witnessed in this part of the country has been set and ready to kick off. Over 100 artists and crew have arrived in the country and settled in the town and in Bulawayo also ready and waiting for Friday afternoon to set the town alive.
Scores of people from outside Gwanda have already started making their way into the town with all the lodgings in the town filled up. Food and beverage outlets have also doubled their stocks in anticipation for a boom in business.
Residents in the quiet town can not contain the excitement of the big event unveiling at their door steps. The town has not settled since Sunday morning when four trucks arrived in the town loaded with the equipment brought in from South Africa.
The agitation amongst the expectant residents got worse on Wednesday afternoon when the sound crew switch on the assembled sound system to test it. The noise from the huge sound system was heard by people some 12 kms outside the town forcing a quick influx of people from the surrounding villages into town.
Rebecca Malope is expected to be the lead attraction of the expensively assembled entourage. Included on the list are Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Lusanda Spiritual Group, Tshepo Tshola and many other gospel sensations from South Africa.
The show which will be free entry for all is expected to attract no less than 20 000 people. Police and other departments have been put on high alert as the huge crowd expected might be too big for the venue.
