JOHANNESBURG - REVERED fallen icon Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo's spirit is inspiring some community driven initiatives to parade and cherish his legacy in high regard.
The 4th annual Joshua Nkomo Celebrations Through Arts is set for the 30th of July at the Hillbrow Theatre in Johannesburg. Like previous editions, entrance will be free and proceedings will commence at 13:00 hours till late.
"We invite you to come and celebrate with us the life and good works of our fallen hero Father Zimbabwe: Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo. July is the month we lost the greatest son of the soil who gave his life for our freedom. His zeal and bravery must be shared and celebrated, the 30th of July 2016 for the fourth time Hilllbrow Theatre will be a hive of activities with Zimbabweans celebrating our lost icon through arts," said Mongezi 'Mo Shaba' Mpofu who is part of Matebeleland Entertainment News (MEN): the organisers.
The event will give opportunity to our local artists and cultural ambassadors based in South Africa, invited guests include Dr Joshua Nkomo's family members and community leaders amongst others. We will also award certificates of recognition to Zimbabweans who are doing wonderful in South Africa for our community," he concluded.
Artists who have confirmed participation in this year's glorious event includes: Thulie Mangethe, Adomeco, Zinjaziyamluma, IGqishamkantsha, Idlamuva, Mdluli, Inkunzi yomanzamnyamba, Mlambos express the supper legends, BIG 5, Ezinkulu Production, Bongani Mncube, Sabelo Sgabade, Thabo Arts, Nicky, Madlela Skhobokhobo power, Amabhubesi Amnyama, Dj mabura, Amajahamahle, Mehlokazulu, Dzalobana Volume 1,Ezomdabu Cultural Dance, Abafana BakaGodlwayo, Insukamini and Amabhukudwana.
Organised by Matebeleland Entertainment News, a community initiative organisation that dedicates its time in bringing Zimbabweans in the diaspora together as a way of restoring their identity and celebrating their heroes. The Joshua Nkomo Celebrations Through Arts steamrolled into motion in 2013 and has grown in leaps and bounds. Prudence Moyo, Bongani Mncube, Ngqabutho Mabhena and Ernest Ndlovu have been awarded the Dr Joshua Nkomo leadership Award along the years.
