INSIZA – Insiza North legislator Delani Moyo (ZANU PF) has surprised Siyazama Primary School in Ward 14 with a US$1000 donation, while also pledging US$8000 to roof two classroom blocks.
The gesture was made during the school’s Prize-Giving Day Ceremony on Tuesday, where Moyo also sponsored prizes for excelling students.
Since succeeding the late MP Faiari Taruvinga, Moyo has spearheaded several development projects in the constituency, including drilling and solarising boreholes, and assisting in the construction of classroom blocks. Communities say they do not regret electing him, describing him as a hardworking and peaceful leader.
Addressing parents and guests, Moyo emphasised his commitment to action rather than empty promises.
“So I will not come to you to lie through making speeches,” he said, before presenting the US$1000 gift to the school head.
In his keynote speech, Moyo praised the dedication of teachers, parents and learners, stressing that education was the foundation of the nation’s future.
“It is through education that we empower our children to dream, to think critically, and to contribute meaningfully to the growth of our nation,” he said.
He encouraged learners to strive for excellence, reminding those who did not receive awards that every child has potential and recognition comes with persistence.
Moyo further surprised 21 teachers with US$20 each, awarded 62 prize-winning learners US$20 each, and gave the school head US$100. He pledged to pay first-term fees for next year’s Grade Seven learners and committed to covering fees from Form One to Form Four for two prize-winning pupils.
Siyazama Primary, established in 1965, has long struggled with dilapidated infrastructure. During campaigns for the recent by-election, Moyo donated 150 bags of cement to the school and 80 bags to Siyazama Secondary, enabling construction of new classroom blocks that remain unroofed. His latest pledge will ensure roofing of both structures.
The event was attended by school head Mr D. Sithole, ZANU PF Ward 23 Councillor Sikhanyisiwe Nkomo, Ward 14 Councillor Kembo Nkomo, village heads, Vidcos, and representatives from other Insiza North schools. Councillor Sikhanyisiwe donated US$100 for schoolchildren, while Councillor Kembo contributed US$30 to the Jikinya dance group.
