About 22 satellite schools from Hurungwe will benefit from a US$88 000 education development grant from the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture by next month.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Sport Arts and Culture, Dr Lazarus Dokora said the funds will be released in two instalments before the end of July.
Dr Dokora was speaking at Kahonde Secondary School in Hurungwe West where he assessed progress made in the construction of a classroom block, funded by businessman, Themba Mliswa through the Hurungwe West Development Association.
Dr Dokora said the money is meant to improve social infrastructure at satellite schools in the district.
He urged the Hurungwe West community to actively participate in developing education infrastructure, saying the thrust of the education policy is no-longer reading and writing based literacy, but ICT based learning.
Dr Dokora added that due to the poor pass rates being recorded at most schools in Hurungwe West, school leavers who score at least three Ordinary Level passes may be allowed to proceed to Advanced Level on condition they will undertake lessons to supplement their Ordinary Level subjects and attain at least five subjects before completing their Advanced Level subjects.
Businessman and Hurungwe West Development Association Chairman, Themba Mliswa said his association is keen on fulfilling the country's education vision, hence the construction of the classroom block at Kahonde Secondary School.
Mliswa said the success of education lies in laying a good foundation for students through provision of appropriate learning infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the association handed over reading library books to four primary schools in the Kahonde circuit.
The books were sourced by the Zimbabwe Youth Development Foundation led by James Bayanayi.
Still on education, Makonde Acting District Education Officer, Solomon Katana said taking children on tours to shrines such as Chimoio and Nyadzonya will go a long way in enhancing the way students appreciate their country's history.
Mr Katana was speaking in Chinhoyi during a send off ceremony of some Chinhoyi High School students who are set to take on a trip to Chimoio in Mozambique this week.
The trip was organised by the school's Interact Club.
Chinhoyi High School Interact Club president, Billy Mwayana paid tribute to liberation war heroes for ensuring the country enjoys the freedom it has today.
