Residents on flood alert

Beitbridge town's Civil Protection Unit has placed residents on flood high alert due to heavy rainfall in the region.
Recently, Zhovhe Dam spilled and several smaller dams in Gwanda and Beitbridge district were reported to have breached.
Chairperson Kilibone Ndou residents staying on lower ground have been advised to move to higher ground in the event of flooding.
"We are communicating through the usual channels of councillors, chiefs, village heads.
"We have not heard anything from the meteorological office, but the rains are persistent. Children were advised to stay away from school if not under adult care" she is quoted saying.
In March last year, the town received around 107mm of rainfall in one day, the highest ever per day in the last seven years.
That saw several houses near Dulibadzimu Bus Terminus damaged.
Most of the flood victims had to sleep on rooftops after the floods reached waist level.
Vagrants and beggars who stayed along a stream in Dulibadzimu suburb were also not spared by the floods.
