BCC lines up several projects for 2018 financial year

A number of capital projects had been lined up for implementation in the 2018 financial year and beyond by the Bulawayo City Council.
Latest council minutes states that in 2017 Council had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Umguza Rural District Council to work together for the harmonious development in planning, servicing and development of Upper and Lower Rangemore.
"In the agreement Bulawayo City Council was to provide Water, Sewerage and Solid Waste Management Services to 66 000 residential properties of Mbundane and Mthunzini. 12 683 properties in Cowdray Park Hlalani Kuhle need to be serviced with Water, Sewerage and Roads," reads the minutes in part.
"The capital budget for 2018 was $ 48 142 546.00, of this projects with an estimated cost of $8,440,443.00 were earmarked for loan financing. Council intended to apply for borrowing powers from the Ministry of Local Government and National Housing amounting to $50,065,000.00."
The minutes states that the last borrowing powers had been applied for in 2014 amounting to $ 13 261 600.00 for the refurbishment of Waste Water Treatment Stations and Sewer Infrastructure.
"Work on the Sewerage projects was still in progress. Expenditure on these projects stood at $7 968 400.00 as at 28 February 2018. The Financial Director had recommended that borrowing Powers amounting to $50 065 000 to cover the projects listed above be advertised in the press and applied for from the Minister of Local Government Public Works and National Housing," reads the minutes.
