Mat North police commander and Zanu-PF apologist Veterai transferred

Zanu-PF apologist and controversial Matabeleland North police commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Edmore Veterai has been redeployed to the police headquarters in Harare to take up administrative duties.

Veterai who in 2011 openly declared his support for Zanu-PF has frustrated a number of rallies organised by other parties and meetings by NGOs.

Veterai, who is listed in the European Union's sanctions list for human rights violations, has been replaced by Senior Assistant Commissioner Norman Sibanda from the police headquarters.

National spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Wayne Bvudzijena on Monday said Veterai, "Is now based at the Police General headquarters in Harare as chief staff officer in charge of administration."

Veterai who had established business interests in the province in the form of a conservancy in Hwange and a lodge in Binga will now be looking into operational requirements from the ten police provinces in the country.

In 2009, the police transferred all its provincial commanders serve for Veterai who is regarded a close ally of police commissioner general Augustine Chihuri.

Last year, armed police officers dispersed MDC-T supporters in Victoria Falls at the behest of Veterai who has not hidden his hatred of party leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
