TelOne has recently donated groceries and blankets to the Entembeni Old People's Home in Bulawayo in an effort to reduce food shortages.
Indications are that 59 inmates benefited from the donation which consisted of 200kg of mealie meal, 10kg of rice, 50kg of soya chunks, cases of salts, beans, cooking oil, bathing and washing soap, sugar, flour and blankets.
TelOne managing director Chipo Mutasa said one of its sustainable development goals is eradication of poverty.
"On that pillar, we do social welfare and activities which show that TelOne is a responsible corporate and we are not operating in a vacuum," she said.
"We want to remember you, our elders, because you are the ones who have raised us and given birth to us to be able to do business. So today we are just saying thank you, because you are all precious and have made everything we are doing possible."
Entembeni Old People Board chair Newman Sibanda said the food shortages were crippling the institution.
"We are a donor funded institution. Our God has answered our prayers through TelOne. We wrote a lot of letters to institutions, but God said we have your children TelOne who are going to come and help you," he said.
Entembeni is a residential home for the old, established in 1967 and is currently with 36 males and 23 females under the care of 10 working staff and 12 volunteers.
