CCC legislator Mr. Takudzwa Ngadziore has not filed any formal reports with law enforcement agencies regarding an alleged abduction circulating on social media, the police announced yesterday.
This purported abduction appears to be similar to previously staged abductions by the opposition just before significant international events, such as the upcoming SADC Extraordinary Summit in Angola.
According to the police, they became aware of the so-called abduction of Mr. Ngadziore through social media.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that after learning about Mr. Ngadziore's alleged abduction, they activated all available resources to locate the alleged victim to ascertain the facts.
"The ZRP has been closely monitoring allegations of abduction and torture on social media. The police want to inform the public that no such case has been reported. We are attempting to make contact with the alleged victim to obtain facts beyond what is available on social media," he stated.
In the meantime, opposition LEAD party leader, Ms. Linda Masarira, has questioned the alleged abduction of Mr. Ngadziore, suggesting it may have been staged to draw international attention to Zimbabwe in light of the upcoming SADC Extraordinary Summit in Luanda, Angola.
Ms. Masarira urged the police to thoroughly investigate the alleged abduction and questioned the logic of the State abducting Mr. Ngadziore, assaulting him, and leaving him for no apparent reason. She called for an investigation into the matter and raised the issue of whether these abductions consistently occur just before regional or international meetings, noting that it often results in allegations against ZANU or CIO.
