Liberty Gumende, a Mutare-based entrepreneur and youth leader in the Zanu-PF party, has lauded President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his commitment to empowering Zimbabwe's youth. Gumende, who was recently appointed as the treasurer of the Manicaland chapter of Boys DzaMudhara - a group of loyalists supporting President Mnangagwa - expressed his gratitude for the government's efforts to support youth entrepreneurship and business ventures.
Gumende, who runs a successful hardware business, emphasized that despite the challenges faced by young entrepreneurs, 2024 was a positive year for youth in business. He pointed to the recent appointment of the Zimbabwe Youth Council board, announced by Youth Empowerment Minister Tinoda Machakaire, as a testament to the government's ongoing commitment to youth development.
"I don't think 2024 was a bad year for us youths who are in business. Of course, there might be ups and downs, but it was generally a good year," Gumende said. "We are inspired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his vision to promote youth empowerment. We are motivated by his remarks, 'brick by brick,' which symbolize the idea that success is not built overnight."
Gumende also took the opportunity to acknowledge the support of Misheck Mugadza, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Manicaland. He praised Mugadza for his dedication to creating business opportunities for young people in the province, noting that the minister's efforts are vital to the youth's success.
"We have a minister who wants youth to thrive and always brings business opportunities for us," Gumende added.
In line with his vision for youth empowerment, Gumende is expanding his hardware business across Manicaland, aiming to create at least 1,000 jobs for young people in the province. His initiative highlights the growing role of young entrepreneurs in driving economic growth and employment in Zimbabwe's provincial areas.
As a committed member of the Boys DzaMudhara, Gumende's efforts reflect the broader movement to support President Mnangagwa's policies, especially those aimed at providing the youth with opportunities for personal and economic development. His work is seen as an important part of the ongoing push to build a self-sustaining economy that empowers the next generation of Zimbabwean entrepreneurs.
