Chiwenga in Italy to represent Mnangagwa

Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga has arrived in Italy to attend the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV, who recently assumed leadership of the Catholic Church following the passing of Pope Francis.
Pope Leo XIV brings to the papacy a strong commitment to interfaith dialogue and social justice. With a deep background in theology and a long-standing advocacy for marginalized communities, the new Pope is expected to focus on addressing the pressing challenges facing the global church today.
Speaking ahead of the event, Vice President Chiwenga expressed Zimbabwe's deep appreciation for the Catholic Church's contributions to the country over the years.
"Zimbabwe fully appreciates everything the church has done for the country and stands shoulder to shoulder with the Vatican," he said.
Representing President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the inauguration, Dr Chiwenga conveyed the Government of Zimbabwe's and its people's warm wishes for God's blessings and guidance to the church and its new leader.
Accompanying the Vice President are his wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, alongside other senior government officials.
The Zimbabwean delegation was warmly received in Italy by Ambassador Mietani Chauke, the country's representative to Italy.
