Man dies in a car accident

Luweni Mashidi (46) of Bulawayo died on the spot when the vehicle he was a passanger in veered off the road and rammed into a tree after the car had hit a cow along the Bulawayo-Plumtree Road, police confirmed yesterday.
Matabeleland South provincial police acting spokesperson Assistant Inspector Christopher Ngwenya confirmed the accident that occurred on Wednesday at around 7pm, where one person died while the driver of the car was injured.
"The circumstances leading to the accident are that the driver Joshua Taruvinga (49) was travelling towards Bulawayo from Plumtree in the evening with one passenger, the now deceased Luweni Mashidi (46)," he said.
Ngwenya said as the driver approached the 96km peg along Bulawayo-Plumtree Road, he hit a cow that was in the middle of the road.
The vehicle then veered off the road and hit a tree, Mashidi died on the spot and Taruvinga sustained serious injuries.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Plumtree District Hospital mortuary where it awaits postmortem and the injured was taken to the same hospital where his condition is said to be critical.
