A Harare-based pastor in Transfiguration Zone International Ministries, Pastor Ronald Matusi was robbed of his possessions worth  $1 480 in Bulawayo by four men who gave him a lift, claiming to be going to Harare.

Shepherd Moyo, 25, Nkosiehle Lare Chinhara, 25, Khulumani Ncube, 24 and Thamsanqa Chalimetsa, 21 of Old Pumula suburb were remanded in custody to November 14 when they appeared before Magistrate Gladmore Mushowe facing robbery charges.

The court heard that on November 9 Matusi had a church service at Royal Hotel in Bulawayo which ended at around 9pm.

The pastor decided to return to Harare and he was accompanied by Pastor Atamelang Matibebela to corner 1st Avenue and S Parirenyatwa Street where Matusi was supposed to hitchhike.

On the same night, four accused persons hatched a plan to go and rob hitchhikers along Harare road.

At around 9.30pm, the quartet, driving a BMW, lured Matusi into their car claiming they were going to Harare. The complainant boarded the car while pastor Matibebela noted down the vehicle registration number on his cell phone.

The accused drove along Harare road up to Mahatshula suburb where one of them grabbed their quarry and robbed him of his I-pad, cell phone, an X2 Nokia phone, C6Nokia, two church banners and a small bag containing $300 along with his particulars before they pushed him out of the car and sped away.

Matusi sought assistance from houses nearby and managed to report the matter at ZRP Bulawayo Central where detectives traced the car, and arrested Moyo and Chalimetsa in Pumula.

Three cell phones were recovered from the house they were sleeping at and the complainant's national identity card which was thrown outside within the same yard was also found.

The four accused also led to the recovery of two church banners along Pumula road in Old Magwegwe and the complainant's small bag.

Police recovered goods worth $1 350.
