Bulawayo City Council's Town Clerk, Mr Middleton Nyoni has urged Bulawayo residents to ignore a hoax message that is being circulating purporting that there will be no water in Bulawayo from Friday to Monday.
The announcement that water will be cut has been in circulating in the City since yesterday.
In a statement released on the City's facebook page under the heading 'Alert: Ignore Hoax Message', Nyoni said, "The City of Bulawayo is concerned that a hoax message has been circulating purporting that there will be no water in Bulawayo from Friday to Monday.
"Residents are advised that this message is not true as the City will not be shutting down water. Please ignore the message."
Despite the message from the council officials, people in Gwabalanda are in panic mode and are hoarding water into drums and other containers.
"It would be better to be safe than sorry. Such rumours don't start out of nowhere," said Ntombenhle Moyo from Gwabalanda.
Bulawayo City Council's Senior public relations officer Nesisa Mpofu urged residents to ignore the 'hoax' message.
