Police have arrested Kelvin Sibanda who allegedly killed his gay athlete brother, popularly known as Samukeliso Sithole, on Wednesday night.
Sibanda, who had been on the run since committing the crime, was arrested today (Friday) about three hours ago at a bottle store in Sizinda, less than a kilometre from where he allegedly fatally stabbed his brother with a screwdriver.
The two were reportedly fighting over a wardrobe that they were bequeathed by their late father.
Family sources told Bulawayo24 News that Sibanda was sold out by a friend in whose house he had been hiding out.
This man has been hiding him but some people told him he would be arrested for harbouring a fugitive from justice. This morning he plied Kelvin with beer and when he got very drunk, he took him to the Bottle store and alerted the police, said a family source who declined to be named.
A police source confirmed the arrest and said Sibanda was taken for crime scene indications and he demonstrated how he killed his brother.
The source said police were still looking for the screwdriver that Sibanda allegedly used to stab his brother, after he indicated that he left it with his wife when he fled from the scene.
Born Mduduzi Sibanda 33 years ago, Samukeliso Sithole competed in international athletic events, representing Zimbabwe where he won many gold and silver medals.
A doctor had to be treated for shock at Mpilo Central Hospital where Sithole was taken soon after the stabbing.
She was admitted to the females ward the doctor left the ward screaming to colleagues that Sithole had changed from being a woman into a man.
The doctor had discovered a pen*s tucked between the athletes legs.
He was reportedly wearing three brassieres padded with cotton wool to make it look like she had breasts.
Sithole was also wearing three skin tights and had tucked his manhood between his legs to conceal it.
A majority of Sithole's neighbours thought he was a woman as he wore womens clothes and even played netball at a local women's club.
The country was deeply embarrassed when in 2005, it was discovered Sithole had duped everyone into believing he was a woman and represented Zimbabwe in international events.
